Gout is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood. Foods with a high a high purine content force the body to produce too much uric acid. The body then can not pass the acid fast enough and it will start to crystallize in joint and ligaments causing painful arthritis.

So what are some foods that can cause gout or cause an arthritic attack for those already afflicted with gout? Grain alcohols can increase your risk to develop Gout. Some fancier foods like lobster, crab or foie gras contain large amounts of purine.
